I recently added a numbers of days of shooting in the Pass in 1986. This was a year of the "Kodachomes" (common name for the ATSF/SP pre-merger livery):

• 1986-04-05: Alray, Summit, Hiland, Lugo
• 1986-04-20: Summit Area, Devore
• 1986-04-26: Pine Lodge, MP 58, MP 57, Summit
• 1986-04-27: Cajon Station, Summit, Keenbrook
• 1986-05-24: Pine Lodge, Blue Cut, Cajon Station, Swarthout, MP 58X, East of Summit
• 1986-07-12: Swarthout, Pine Lodge, MP 57, Martinez Spur, Hiland
• 1986-10-26: MP 58, Summit
• 1986-11-02: MP 58, MP 57, Summit

I also added a day that, while not actually in the Cajon Pass, is associated with the Pass in one way or another:

• 1986-04-25: Last Eastbound and westbound (Amtrak #36 and #35) at Pasadena Depot

Maintenance of Way

I spent a few hours in the Pass today with friends from the UK. The photos are here.

There was substantial track work east of Summit and a number of trains were waiting at each end of the work zone. The dispatcher appeared to be running one at a time in alternating directions.

Even with these delays, there seemed to be a lot of traffic for a Tuesday. Another encouraging sign of an improving economy.
