New Scans Loaded for 1988

2012-09-09

I've added the remaining shooting days in the Pass in 1988:

Labor Day With a D4

2012-09-03

A morning at the East End of Summit

The Nikon D4 finally arrived so it was clearly necessary to see if it could shoot trains. A major federal holiday, such as Labor Day, is not the best day for catching much traffic in the pass, but during the few hours I spent at the east end of Summit, traffic was running about two trains an hour, mostly westbounds. This is respectable holiday traffic, the economy not wihstanding.

What about the camera? All I can say is WOW!

New Scans Loaded for 1987

I recently added the remaining shooting days in the Pass in 1987. This was another "year of the Kodachromes" (common name for the ATSF/SP pre-merger livery):

New Scans Loaded for 1986

2012-03-22

I recently added the remaining shooting days in the Pass in 1986. This was a year of the "Kodachomes" (common name for the ATSF/SP pre-merger livery):

I also added a day that, while not actually in the Cajon Pass, is associated with the Pass in one way or another:

Maintenance of Way

2012-02-14

I spent a few hours in the Pass today with friends from the UK. The photos are here.

There was substantial track work east of Summit and a number of trains were waiting at each end of the work zone. The dispatcher appeared to be running one at a time in alternating directions.

Even with these delays, there seemed to be a lot of traffic for a Tuesday. Another encouraging sign of an improving economy.
